If the Earth were flat you could see land on the other side of the oceans. Incidentally, I don’t bash flat earther’s, I try and educate them. Read on and I’ll explain why.

Many people have thought the earth is flat because of how they discern scripture or for whatever other reasons. But bear in mind those writings in Scripture were from a long time ago and the way we talk today is much different. Many things in scripture are misunderstood by many, not just the flat earth theory. You don’t need the Bible to know the shape of the Earth, all you need is your brain and some wisdom.

You cannot see the curvature of the Earth while you are standing on it. You would need to get out closer to space to be able to see it.

The moon is a harsh mistress and proves the earth is round. When we see the new moon it is because the earth is casting it’s shadow on the moon. If the earth were flat you would never seen a quarter crescent because the shadow of the earth would be a straight line instead. Because we live on a very large planet and only view a very small area of it, the surface appears flat. The circumference of the earth at the equator has been measured at 24.901.461 miles.

The earth’s surface curves out of site at a distance of 3.1 miles or 5 kilometers even though our visual acuity extends far beyond the horizon. This is why when you look around as far as you can see on the earth it appears as a straight line all around you.

If Earth were flat you would be able to see bright lights hundreds of miles away. The sun is 93,000,000 miles away. Even though the number of stars we can see falls off with distance, we can see stars light years away. One light year is about 6 trillion miles and Medical bear saw closer than 500 light years with bad eyesight corrected by eyeglasses when younger. This is the distance of Pleiades which is far brighter than our sun. Deneb is brighter also, estimated more than 1000 light years away.

Being out on a very large lake or on the ocean far enough from land that you can still see the tops of buildings and whatever else is there, shows the curvature of the earth. The video at the bottom of this post will explain that.
